FEBRUARY 2012

Elizabeth Kracht is a relatively new agent (2010) with Kimberley Cameron & Associates--an agency with offices in San Francisco and Paris.

WHAT SHE'S LOOKING FOR:

In fiction, she "represents literary, commercial, women's, thrillers, mysteries, and YA with crossover appeal. She is intrigued by untrustworthy narrators, tragic tales of class and circumstance, and identifies with flawed and quirky yet sterling characters."  (Note:  she will take science fiction, but is not interested in horror).

HOW TO CONTACT/SUBMIT:

1. Please send a query letter in the body of the email (info@kimberleycameron.com), written in a professional manner and clearly addressed to Elizabeth Kracht.

2. Attach a one-page synopsis and the first fifty pages of your manuscript as separate Word or PDF documents.

3. Include "Author Submission" in the subject line.

BONUS:  She can forgive a poorly written query, but advises everyone to brush up on this skill.

QUOTE FROM THE INTERVIEW:    ". . . rather than publishing or posting excerpts, it might be wiser to write some additional content about the characters in the form of a short story and publish it on a website such as Smashwords for free or $.99. I would love to be able to say to an editor I am pitching that an author I am working with has had thousands of downloads (and great reviews) of a short story of content related to the manuscript.

JANUARY 2012

Laura Rennert is a Senior Agent with Andrea Brown--an agency that specializes in children's and YA.  If you have written a speculative YA, Laura should definitely be on your list to query.  Laura  is one of the leading horror fiction agents in the industry, known for garnering six and seven figure book deals for her clients.  Despite her success, she does work with new authors.  Occasionally, she even handles adult fiction.  Writers' Digest has called Andrea Brown one of the top agencies for developing new writers

WHAT SHE'S LOOKING FOR:

Right now she's particularly seeking upper middle-grade and YA fiction. She's drawn to contemporary and multi-cultural fiction; speculative fiction and alternate histories/realities; dystopian, fantasy, and paranormal; thrillers, science fiction and horror; neo-gothic novels and steampunk; subversive fairy tales; and other genres that hark back to her 19th century Brit Lit roots. She has a weakness for novels that turn her favorite classics (hint, Jane Austen, Shakespeare, original fairy tales, Dante, the Pre-Raphaelites) or myths inside out, give them an intriguing new context, and bring something unexpected to the table. She'd be thrilled to find a Hugo Cabret-like illustrated novel for older readers.
